Animal Success Stories

Skyline Bar

 ... Janine Allen  ...

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.

I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn’t be afraid. As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn’t want her to know that I hadn’t been walked today. Sometimes the overworked shelter keepers get too busy and I didn’t want her to think poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn’t feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone’s life.

She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.

Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms.

I would promise to keep her safe.
I would promise to always be by her side.
I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.

I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven’t walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

I rescued a human today.

BECCA

Hi Jane, I just wanted to let you know how Becca( now named Delphi) is doing. She is awesome and I'm proud to say very spoiled. She goes everywhere with us and has learned that the beach and lake are very fun places. She is not a very good swimmer , but knows not to go to far without her life jacket. It took a little while but she is now great friends with our cat Chili. She knows that Sundays mean we get to go to the dog park. She has met some good dog friends there that she plays with every time we go. We adore her and thank you again for helping us find her. We will keep in touch.
Thanks,
Sarah , Joey, and Delphi

SNICKERS

(4.28.10) What was that candy bar slogan? "Snickers satisfies." Well Snickers does that and more. The new addition to our family has been amazing. My wife, daughter, and I could not be happier with Snickers. Snickers enjoys our morning runs, and lounging on the cold tile floor afterwards. Snickers loves to play and we love to play with her. My 8 year old daughter is doing great with Snickers' commands, but I think she uses them as just another way to sneak her more treats. We took her to the vet early this week for some preventative care products, and the doc gave her top marks. He said she was a very healthy, happy, and an energetic boxer. Our friends and family have always teased us about how we are so full of energy. Well this family has found the perfect match with Snickers. When it's time to play we play, and when it's time for rest we rest. It is such a blessing to have all the family on the same schedule. Thank you Houston Boxer Rescue for the amazing love and care you have shown. Our prayer is that we continue the greatness you started. Thank you, ---The Sellers Family.

ZIVA

(4.27.10) Ziva is doing great in her new home. She has two kids to play with and take her for walks. She also has two cats. One loves to play with her and they roll around on the floor and chase each other. Her other cat teases her, but won’t play with her. She loves riding in the car to go to soccer practices and games. She loves being around people, especially children. She also likes visiting her terrier friend, Casper . She is almost potty trained. She knows to go outside, but yesterday, for the first time, she actually let us know that she needed to go potty by going to the back door and scratching! She’s also learning to like having a bath! She loves her backyard, and especially loves chasing balls and playing tug-of-war.

ROLLIE POLLIE
ROLLIE POLLIE

(4.19.10) Hello!  I am writing you to tell you how wonderful the dog we adopted from your organization is.  Java has been an absolute joy to own and have around the house.  We got her as a companion for our two-year-old Lab, and they are madly in love with one another.  They play incessantly, groom one another, and even chew on the same chew bone at the same time!  It is hysterical and heartwarming to watch them together.  I've had dogs my entire life, and I don't think I've ever seen two dogs love each other more, than these two do.

Last night, Java went into the backyard and returned with a teeny tiny, three-week-old kitten in her mouth, which she took upstairs and gave to my husband.  Somehow, this kitten had gotten into the backyard, and we have no idea how.  The vet believes a mother cat carried the kitten over the fence and tried to hide it somewhere out of the rain.  It's a mystery, for we have looked all day for other kittens and for the mother cat and have not found either.  Because of Java, the kitten is out of the rain, doing well, and has been adopted by a vet technician at the vet.  Java very well may have saved this kitten's life!  That's the kind of dog she is.  Wonderful!

Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to have such a great pet.  ---Mary Valk

BAKER

(2.22.10) I hope you are able to view these pics. One is at my Dad's camp in East Texas with his boxer Lilly and the other is with my daughter Reese. We are so happy with Baker and he has turned out to be the best decision we could of made. He has adjusted just fine and has already stole our hearts! ---Take Care, Joeli
