Skyline Bar

 ... Janine Allen  ...

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.

I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn’t be afraid. As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn’t want her to know that I hadn’t been walked today. Sometimes the overworked shelter keepers get too busy and I didn’t want her to think poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn’t feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone’s life.

She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.

Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms.

I would promise to keep her safe.
I would promise to always be by her side.
I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.

I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven’t walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

I rescued a human today.

BOGEY
BOGEY

(7.7.09) Just wanted to give y'all an update on Mr. Bogey; I swear he thinks he is lap dog. It was about 2 weeks after we brought him home we went to the beach, which he loved. But, on the way back he instisted on sitting on my lap the entire way back. He just layed there the whole time soaking up the attention. He is the sweetest dog ever. I want to thank everyone so much for all the hard work that y'all do. ---Amy and Family

BO
BO

(4.20.09) The kids are doing great! Allie loves to see what she can get away with and Bo is just along for the ride when they are up to no good. Attached are some pictures I have recently taken since they are now 4 months old. We found out that Allie gets car sick so we go to the doctor to get a shot every now and then or just to refill her car sick medicine. We were there last week for Allie and I of course had to take Bo since they do everything together :-) ---Thanks Terie Gresham

BRUISER
BRUISER

(2.24.09) Dear Houston Boxer Rescue: I am writing in regards to the new Boxer my husband and I just adopted from your wonderful organization. We feel truly blessed that we came across your organization and that we were able to adopt a beautiful, fun-loving Boxer. Our Boxer, Bruiser, has a wonderful spirit and positive attitude. My husband and I provide Bruiser with the love and attention he deserves, and are overjoyed that he reciprocates that love. He has made our family complete. Bruiser is always excited to greet me during the week when I come home from work. After I pet him, I let him outside to play in the fenced yard and start preparing dinner. The kitchen door is left open so he can roam freely as he likes. Soon after that, my husband George arrives. When Bruiser hears his truck in the back driveway, he runs to the gate to wait for George. When he sees George those Boxer wiggles kick-in. Bruiser is very affectionate. He is also very attached to me, especially when he wants to be a baby and get pampered. And he loves getting attention from George, who is more of the disciplinary. We always sit outside with him, weather permitting, so he can stay in his yard for a little awhile before he comes in for the night. Bruiser sometimes accompanies us on short trips. Last weekend, we took Bruiser to Tomball. He loved the ride and tried to sit up in the front with us. We had to keep the console up to prevent him from jumping up front. We are in the process of training him, which can be prove to be somewhat of a challenge. One lesson we’re trying to teach him is staying in the kitchen and in his bed. This can be difficult because he wants to be with us all the time and will try to follow us. Often he will go to the formal living room and sit on my red sofa, which is off limits. Bruiser is a special, friendly, and loving companion. He has no mean streak in him whatsoever. However, he can be very stubborn. Training him isn’t easy because sometimes he has his mind set on what he wants. We still have a ways to go with the training, but we have a lot of patience so it will work. We’re always gentle in our approach with Bruiser. He recently received treatment for the heartworms and we understand that he can’t get too excited. We try to relax him when he does. His 6 week recovery period is almost up and we hope to give him more play time and exercise once he’s at his full recovery. As of now, the most he has walked is to the mailbox with George, just 1 block. We are looking forward to him feeling better and being more active. Having Bruiser with us has been a great joy. We’re anxious during the week to get home from work to see him and cherish the time we have with him. Thank you for giving us Bruiser. We appreciate and respect your organization for taking caring of Bruiser, and other loving boxers just like him, and finding them loving homes. Special thanks go to his foster parents Michael and Tammy Norris. They took excellent care of Bruiser and made him what he is. He was lucky to have them find him and nourish him to good health and give him a lot of love. Thank you again, Doris and George Gonzalez
