Animal Success Stories
... Janine Allen ...
Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.
I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn’t be afraid. As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn’t want her to know that I hadn’t been walked today. Sometimes the overworked shelter keepers get too busy and I didn’t want her to think poorly of them.
As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn’t feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone’s life.
She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.
Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms.
I would promise to keep her safe. I would promise to always be by her side. I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.
I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven’t walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.
I rescued a human today.

POLLY
(10.27.10) Molly is doing great. She is the best decision I made in 2010! I have not had the first issue with her other than she wakes me up too early on the weekends. She is my buddy, my pal, my best friend. Oh, and she snores a lot. :) Here is a picture of her angel face 'look' when she wants a treat!
JARROD
(10.22.10) Here's an updated picture of Jarrod (renamed Murphy). He is doing real
well- gained some weight and is getting along with Sophie better. They
play a lot! He snores like a freight train and howls when petted - funniest thing ever!
Thanks a bunch! ---Teresa B. Graves
FIN
[9.20.10] Hello Houston Boxer Rescue, Cassius AKA Fin is doing so well and we love him sooo much. We have had our share of bumps with his love of chewing all things but we love him. We made a commitment to love him and care for him for the rest of his life. He is a loving, energetic, and sensitive dog. It took him a while to want to step foot outside of our house for any reason. With the help of our female boxer Miss Bailey,Cassius is now happy leaving the house and being outdoors for long periods of time with us. He still gets anxious with loud trucks passing by but he doesn't try and hide under the nearest person anymore. We just moved to Corpus Christi, Texas to a larger house with a much larger yard and Cassius is loving it.
We are so happy and thankful that you guys rescued him and allowed us to be his new family. Here are some pics of Cassius and Miss Bailey!!!! ---Thanks again for what you do!!!!
DESTINY
[9.22.10]
(Destiny now) Dixie is doing wonderfully!
She has really become a part of our family. She is starting to fill out and we have found a few toys she likes to play with. We play together every evening when I get home and she really burns up energy in the backyard. She runs so fast I can’t keep up with her. She is so funny how she will run circles out back and try to play chase with us. She is quite a prissy thing in the morning, I have to practically drag her outside as she doesn’t like to “go” in the wet grass! Two weeks ago my son brought his Lhasa Apso over to see how they would get along. I brought Dixie outside on the leash. She was so excited to see him, wagging her tail. She started to sniff him and he tried to go Alpha male on her and snapped at her. She snapped at him and then he peed cuz he was so scared of her! LOL We brought them in the house and he hid behind his mamma the whole time. We kept her on the leash but she did really well. The most impressive thing about Dixie is the way she behaved this past week. Last Thursday night we had houseguests descend upon us. I was nervous about this. A family of 6; mom, dad, 3 yr old girl and a set of 19 month old triplets! Nothing to be worried about with Dixie! She has been so good with these children. They have petted, poked, and prodded her, and she has been absolutely beautifully behaved. We have had to move her food and water dishes because of the children, and she has taken it in stride. Their dad, my cousin, has remarked everyday how great she is with the kids and can’t believe such a wonderful dog had to be rescued!
BEACON
We received the most wonderful puppy in the world on the 20th of August 2010. He is smart, funny, goofy and pure joy. His foster parents named him Beacon but we said along time ago if we ever got another puppy we would name him Cooper.
He had two broken toes but he is doing so well now ... you can tell from the pictures. He is a handful but sooo smart. I have taught him to heel on the leash. Stop and sit when I stop. He fetches and brings back his toys, drops it and waits for me to throw it again. If he jumps on someone to greet them I say down and he sits.
We are all doing well. We have a lot more to learn about each other but it is never boring. We smile, giggle and laugh out loud everyday!
Our Heartfelt thanks to all of you at Houston Boxer Rescue.
---With Gratitude, Gail, Jeff, and Cooper
