Have you ever just stopped, looked around, and thought, “There’s got to be more to the world than this”? Well that used to be me. Every. Single. Day. At least until the day I was rescued. Let me explain…
Before becoming a member of the HBR family I spent my whole life outside. When it was hot, I was outside. When it was freezing cold, I was outside. When it was raining, I was outside. I’m sure you get the idea. And to make matters worse not only was I outside, I was tied up to a tree. So my world was very small and very lonely. There’s not much life for you when a tree is the center of your universe, you know? So instead of learning things like how to be part of a family, how to play with dog toys, and how to walk on a leash, etc, I spent all of my time hoping that there was something better out there and I would get to be part of it someday.
And then it finally happened! Someday finally arrived and I was rescued by someone who saw how sad and small my life had become. They found a way to get the people who tied me to the tree to let me go and I was whisked away and eventually became part of Houston Boxer Rescue. Everything has happened so fast that it all seems like I’ve been waking up to a dream come true!
Now that I’m part of HBR I have a name. (It’s Maya by the way.) I get to be part of a foster family and I get to live INSIDE! And let me tell you I have learned that living inside of the house is so much better than living outside of the house.
I’ve also learned a lot of other things since being rescued. For example I have learned how to sleep in a kennel, how to sleep on a dog bed, and how I should only go to the bathroom outside. I’ve learned about dog toys and how much fun they can be! More importantly I’m learning how to be part of a family. I know how to get along with other dogs, and I can get along with kids too.
My foster mama says that I’m very smart and that I’m learning everything very fast. Do you know what else she said? She said I’m ready to find my very own furever family. She thinks I’d be a great family member for any family that wants a quiet, gentle, goofball in their lives. She thinks my furever family is out there and that they will understand that everything is still new to me and that sometimes I get a little bit shy and/or nervous around new people or in new situations. She said they won’t care about that and they will love me anyway. Have you ever hear anything better?
So that’s it. That’s my story. The only thing left is to find out if you are the family I’ve been waiting for. Please fill out an adoption application and let’s find out.
PS - If you were wondering what in my genes makes me this darn cute than you should know that I’m part Boxer and (most likely) part Great Dane.
